What Kind of Commitment is Needed?

From a friend:

Dude,

I have a couple who have purchased Insanity. She watched the first disc with a neighbor, on the couch, no workout involved. He has done less. They want to know what kind of commitment is needed. I do not think they are ready for a program like this. Do I tell them they can do Insanity every other day or do I tell them to do Shakeology and the Shakeology work outs until they are ready for more? He wants to lose weight, she wants, uh, to help him. The non-committal thing kills me. How do I proceed, I want to see them succeed, call me tomorrow if you need to, tonight is about the family. Love you brother, thanks for being there for me

Other dude,

Ready or not, the key is finding a workout that they will DO. Mardi (mutual friend) wasn't ready for INSANITY, but he liked it. He did phase 1 (month 1) twice before moving to phase 2. Maybe your friends could do this.. maybe it's still too much and they should try a different workout.

What Kind of Commitment is Needed?

How much time he needs to contribute is determined by how dedicated he is to results. If the answer is "somewhat," then 2 or 3 times per week will get some results if he keeps his diet in check. If he wants the results in the infomercial, our programs are a 7 day per week commitment (always with one or two rest days per week). Honestly, if he does this M,W, & F, and keeps his diet right where it is, he will start to get results and it will start to change his habits. See below.

Small Commitments Grow with Time:

Maybe your judgment is right and they should start with Shakeology. Not just the workouts, but the drink. Here's what I've seen with that:

Drinking Shakeology every day doesn't just start changing your physical health, it starts changing your mind. It gets you in the habit of doing something for your health every day. This gets you thinking about your health every day even if just for a few minutes. Then you start to notice the benefits on your health and you start talking about it; thinking more about your health every day. Since we become what we feed our mind, this starts changing us to more positive and powerful daily habits. We begin thinking about our nutrition beyond just Shakeology. Eventually, this will lead to exercise or to exercising harder.

If they get on Shakeology HD, they get the workouts free. Why not give it a shot? Then see if you can get them to do a P90X workout with you. If that doesn't work, see if you can get them to a Fit Club and test something else. There is one near 205 and 26. Borrow some different videos from Mardi or me. We got options, baby, options! Maybe you need to start them on a walking program, graduating to jogging or a weighted pack!

Make sure they know you care about them and want them to get the results they set out to get when they invested in INSANITY. Remind them that they have 30 days to get a full refund. That's a pretty standard rule on all Beachbody stuff, including Shakeology's 30 day, empty bag, money back guarantee.

The Non-Committal Thing:

The noncommittal thing is common. This is where negotiations come into play and questions are critical. You need to follow a line of questioning that boils him down to what results he wants and when he wants them. This will tell you how many calories he can eat per day, how many times he has to workout per week, and for how long. You don't really need to worry about any of that just yet. You just need to get him to commit to a goal that is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. Then you need to get him to put it in writing and tape it to his fridge or his bathroom mirror where he will see it every day. Then you call him once or twice per week and say, "yo dude, what's up?! How are you doing on those goals?" He will avoid you when he's not working on them. He will be glad to hear from you when he is. Don't hesitate to call his significant other either!

I like to have people write all their workouts on a calendar template to post on the fridge. They can put an X through the workouts they actually DO. I will ask to see it from time to time if I can. I get everyone I can to keep a written calorie journal for their first month so they can get an idea for what a portion size really is. This shocks the shit out of most people.

Log into TBB and learn how to use the caloric needs calculator. You will want to be able to tell people about this so they too can know how many calories they need in a day. This shocked Gena (my wife) recently. Once she plugged her numbers into the calculator, the weight started coming off. It took me a year to convince her. As the cook of the family, I had been overfeeding her for years!

The Beauty of Coaching:

This is all coaching is! Finding ways to help people reach their goals!! This stuff isn't magic and doesn't require a degree in medicine or nutrition. It requires only a heart to serve others. People should consult their doctor before starting a new program or any step along the way that may result in injury. A coach is not a doctor.

A Team Beachbody Coach is a big brother or sister who will help get you through a program to get the results you deserve. I love all that we are and all that we do. I'd love a chance to show you what it's all about...
