When I stopped coaching for the Navy, I started coaching for BeachBody: the makers of P90X, TurboJam, Insanity, and several other programs. I also make backpackers out of people, but that is for another time.

For people who want to build strength while losing weight, I recommend P90X.

P90X isn't equipment intensive. You will need the following:
Pullup Bar- Door mount if necessary or build something. If you aren't ready for pull-ups (even with chair assist) get resistance bands. I can teach you how to link them to the top of a door or ceiling joist and do lat pull downs. My wife did this for the first round, then she upgraded to wall assist pullups.
Dumbells or Resistance Bands- You have a pretty big frame. I would suggest a mix of dumbells up to 35lbs. I have a mix up to 15lbs, then a set of 25lbs and 35lbs. For the in between weights, I cross smaller weights over heavier weights. Otherwise, go get a resistance band set. They are cheap and easy.
If you are looking to build stamina and drop weight like a crack habit, I suggest Insanity.
